St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Massillon, Ohio, is a beautiful old building that has been in use since 1880. So, when fire damage threatened that history in August 2015, the parishioners were dedicated to replacing their original doors with replicas that were as authentic as possible.
Every so often, we get called upon to perform a custom millwork job that allows us to both flex our creative muscles and help a worthwhile institution. A project for The KIPP Academy, a charter school for under-resourced children in Columbus, was one such project.
David had designed the home, but based in Columbus, he wasn’t going to be able to be onsite in West Virginia, where it was actually being constructed. Since it was a monumental project for the area, he wanted someone on-hand to make sure that drawings were being interpreted correctly and that the doors were being crafted to his specifications.
While Dave Floyd was visiting a furniture store in Sugarcreek, Ohio, someone suggested that he check out Rockwood Door for some help with a personal construction project he was about to undertake.
Rockwood has partnered with Signature Builders in Berlin on several projects, so it was natural for them to call us for help with a new home. There was just one problem. The homeowner wanted to know why our work was costly, and why the contractor had selected us. This situation gave us a perfect opportunity to clarify how we price.
