Rockwood has partnered with Signature Builders in Berlin on several projects, so it was natural for them to call us for help with a new home. There was just one problem. The homeowner wanted to know why our work was costly, and why the contractor had selected us. This situation gave us a perfect opportunity to clarify how we price.
Sometimes, the level of craftsmanship and detail that clients ask for means that our price is higher, not simply because Rockwood is always more expensive, but because we’re providing a level of quality and customization that can’t be matched elsewhere.
That being said, we’re always interested in continued conversation with clients to see if we can get them what they want and still provide a competitive bid. We can pull out all the stops on your door, or we can be more cost-efficient; we can give you the top-of-the-line or we can give you a door with fewer bells and whistles, still constructed solidly. Our primary goal is to understand what you want aesthetically in the door and how you want it to function, and then to give you good value for your dollar. And—if you just want something simple and functional—we’ll do that work also and probably cost less than the competition.
When we sat down, educated the customer, and compared apples to apples with a competitor’s quote, our price was actually a little lower. In the end, this clarifying information helped the Signature customer understand how we work, and enabled us to better understand how to get him exactly what he wanted at a comfortable price.
